Women in Squash Mentorship Program: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders

Are you a newly trained coach or an aspiring ambassador for Women’s Squash Week? This mentorship program is designed to help you grow, connect, and lead within the squash community. Whether you’re just starting or looking to deepen your impact, this program provides a unique opportunity to connect with female coaches, athletes, and leaders from across the sport.

Join our vibrant network of women in squash, where we’ll foster collaboration, share insights, and learn from one another to advance female representation in the sport. With monthly interactive sessions from mid-May to mid-August, each session will offer engaging discussions on leadership, advancing female engagement, and much more.

Our program includes three powerful types of mentorship to support your growth:

  • Group Mentoring Sessions: In these sessions, a mentor will lead and encourage discussion-based learning and collaborative problem-solving. Our monthly sessions will be structured around this format, allowing you to share ideas, learn from others, and build lasting connections.

  • One-on-One Mentoring: Each mentee will be paired with a mentor for personalized guidance. Whether through calls, video chats, or messages, this one-on-one mentorship will give you the chance to address individual challenges, set personal goals, and build a meaningful relationship with your mentor.

  • Peer Mentoring: Learning from each other is a cornerstone of this program. Peer mentoring will allow you to share experiences, offer advice, and provide support to fellow participants. Together, we’ll foster a collaborative environment where everyone benefits from collective knowledge.

Together, we’ll build a strong foundation for the future of women in squash. Don’t miss out—this is your chance to be part of a powerful community and take your squash journey to the next level!

Mentor 2: Dara Sklar

Leading Women's Squash Week

Dara Sklar fell in love with squash over 20 years ago and has since become a passionate advocate for growing the sport, especially among women. A certified referee and coach, Dara blends creative marketing with a welcoming, grassroots approach that has led to a club membership that’s nearly 50% female—well above the national average. She’s excited to share her strategies and support other clubs in building vibrant, inclusive squash communities.

Shelley has been a dedicated volunteer and recreational squash player in B.C. for over 40 years, with the past seven focused on advancing opportunities for women and girls through Squash BC and Vancouver Racquets Club. As Chair of Squash BC’s Women and Girls in Squash Committee (2019–2022), she helped grow female participation from 20% to 33%, while leading key initiatives like Women’s Squash Week and the Emerging Female Leaders Program. A certified Community Squash Coach and Doubles Official, Shelley continues to mentor new players through volunteer-led coaching at VRC alongside Jenn Arntorp and Olivia Maxwell.
