Vancouver Women’s Squash League

The Vancouver Women’s Squash League wrapped up a fantastic season with a fun evening of squash and socializing, celebrating a great year of competition. A great night saw 56 women come out to play matches and connect with the community.

Vancouver Doubles League

The VDL Finals pitted long-standing rivals Evergreen and Van Lawn against each other.  Evergreen dominated the regular season standings – easily winning the overall points title and the Haebler Cup (positions 5 through 8) and narrowly defeating Hollyburn for the Windsor Plywood Cup (positions 1 through 4) in the last regular season match.

The season lasted just long enough, however, for some Van Lawn Soldiers to get off the injury list and into the lineup for the finals.  This made a difference and Van Lawn was able to jump to a 3-1 lead after the first night at Van Lawn. VanLawn was  then able to clinch the 1 match and 2 games they needed on the last night to clinch the Playoff title and win the coveted Silver Cup.  As always there was a great crowd and camaraderie as all teams cheered players on and enjoyed beer from R&B Brewing and food arranged by Kishori Lakhani.

The Brian MacFarlane Memorial Plaque was awarded to Richard Freeman of Van Lawn.  This is an annual award given to a league player who demonstrates exceptional Team Leadership and Sportsmanship.

Vancouver Women’s Doubles League (WDL)

The Women’s Doubles League Finals night was a big success!

It was an exciting evening of matches that came down to the final showdown. The Division 1 players delivered, putting on a thrilling performance for the crowd. In a true nail-biter, the Boast Busters mounted an incredible comeback, down 2–0 and facing match balls in the fourth, to win 3–2 and secure the title.

It’s exciting to see the continued growth of women’s doubles in Vancouver. The increasing depth and strong sense of community are a testament to the league’s impact, with the WDL playing an important role in creating opportunities for women to compete and connect with other doubles players. We’re excited for next season!

Thank You to Club Administrators and Captains
