This year, with the support of our Gender Equity in Coaching grant from CWIS and our LeadForward grant from viaSport, we proudly launched the Women in Squash: Mentorship Program, engaging over fifteen participants across over half of the provincial gaming zones in BC. Aligning with our mission to break down barriers to female leadership in squash, this initiative is supporting individuals across the majority of the provincial gaming zones in BC. This program is also providing a space for connection, resource-sharing, and mentorship by fostering a community that is committed to elevating women’s roles in our sport.

Since the program’s launch in May, we’ve hosted four engaging webinars, each led by one of our incredible mentors:

  • Tasha Doucas shared insights on Developing Effective Leadership Tools
  • Dara Sklar presented A Roadmap to Women’s Squash Week
  • Giselle Delgado offered strategies on How to Make Squash a Sport for Life
  • Shelley Neil explored the concept of achieving Squash-Life Balance

These monthly sessions have not only helped build leadership capacity but also nurtured meaningful relationships among women in squash. Beyond the group sessions, each participant has been thoughtfully paired with a dedicated program mentor to engage in one-on-one mentorship. This approach allows for tailored guidance, and ongoing support that addresses the unique goals and challenges of each participant and their community.

We are excited that, with the support and guidance of our mentors, many program participants have stepped into roles as Ambassadors for this year’s Women’s Squash Week. As Ambassadors, they’ll be helping to organize and host local events, promote inclusivity in the sport, and amplify the opportunities for women in squash. We’re proud to see these emerging leaders put their learnings into practice and contribute to growing the game in meaningful ways!

As we look ahead, we’re excited for our program wrap-up this October, following Women’s Squash Week. We’ll be sharing highlights, lessons learned, and stories from this journey.
