Squash BC is thrilled to deliver two Coaching Courses in June: the Community Squash Instructor Course and the Intermediate Coaching Course! For more information, please read the course descriptions below and visit the courses’ respective Club Locker Pages to register.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Community Squash Instructor Course

This course and the Multi-sport modules (NCCP Make Ethical Decisions course & NCCP Coach Initiation in Sport eLearning) provide all the training necessary to help introduce the fundamentals of squash to beginners at all ages.

By becoming a ‘Trained Community Squash Instructor’ you may assist Certified Coaches in your club or local community (ie. school teams, grassroots programming, beginner clinics etc.). This course is geared towards those who are club volunteers, recreational players, teachers, older juniors or parents who do not coach full time but would like to learn the basic skills of squash instruction at the grassroots level.

Time: 9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Subject to change)
Venue: University of Victoria – CARSA
Fee: $125 + GST per participant ($150 + GST for non-Squash BC members).
UVIC Students will receive a discounted registration price, please contact programs@squashbc.com to register as a UVIC student.

All participants will receive a Squash Canada Community Squash Instructor workbook, Squash BC notebook and course registration. There will be instruction on and off the courts so please bring squash gear.

Intermediate Coaching Course

This course will train coaches to teach beginner to intermediate squash players in the Learning to Train and Training to Train stages of athlete development. This course covers both the Intermediate Instruction and Introduction to Competition stream. Prior coaching certification is not necessary but recommended.

In the Intermediate Instruction stream, coaches will learn to refine basic squash skills and introduce intermediate strokes and related performance skills to intermediate, recreational players. In addition, coaches will be able to schedule, plan and promote programs and activities, including fun tournaments.

In the Introduction to Competition stream, coaches will also be trained to work with juniors and young adults who are more competitive and train to refine their intermediate squash skills and train on a seasonal basis to improve their general fitness and prepare for competitive play and regional tournaments. This course will cover roles and responsibilities of the Intermediate Coach, intermediate coaching skills, intermediate strokes, court movement, strategies and tactics, and match performance.

Friday: 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Saturday: 9 AM to 6 PM
Sunday: 9 AM to 5 PM

Mandatory Pre-requisite before you attend the course: Coaching in Squash eLearning module – Sign into your Coach Locker profile to complete (Cost is $35)

Course Fee: $300 for Squash BC Members, additional $50 for non-Squash BC Members
Course includes:
22 hours of on-court, practical instruction
Reference Materials and Coach Workbook
Partial completion of Intro to Competition Certification (Certification also requires completion of multi-sport modules and evaluation)
