On October 17, Squash BC celebrated its 50th Anniversary. In honor of this huge milestone, Squash BC is aiming to raise $50,000 by the end of the 2024/25 season — $50K for 50 Years — a meaningful goal celebrating half a decade of excellence and reflecting our commitment to the future of squash in British Columbia.
These funds will support vital initiatives that help us:
- GROW: Develop programs, resources, and events that empower women in our sport.
- ENGAGE: Create opportunities for new players, reduce barriers to entry, and support community engagement programs for all ages.
- PROTECT: Enhance resources and support for community centres and squash facilities, ensuring sustainability for years to come.
Impactful Results
Your $50K for 50 Years contribution will directly support Squash BC initiatives, enabling us engage with more participants and launch/further develop impactful programs like these:
- Create Opportunities for New Players: In September 2023, Squash BC launched Squash in Schools, with the goal of improving access to and awareness of squash for students in grades 3 to 7, while introducing the fundamentals of squash within the student’s gymnasium. The program over 3,000 students to the sport of squash last season, and nearly 2,500 kids this season, making it the largest launched Squash BC program so far.
- Reduce Barriers to Entry: This past spring, Squash BC piloted a new community development & facility engagement program: Community Champions. Five facilities participated in the pilot program, which included launching or further developing a program at their club and participating in group mentorship sessions. Squash BC provided Champions with grant funding, Roving Ambassador support (including being on site for a program launch event), access to equipment, and tools/resources.
- Enhance Inclusivity in Squash: In March 2024, Squash BC launched Wheelchair Squash 57, in partnership with the Chilliwack Squash Club. This program was generously funded by a Canadian Tire Jumpstart – Community Development Programming Grant. We hope to launch and extend the program to the Lower Mainland.
