At 82 years old, Gerald Poulton is proving that age is no barrier to excellence. A dominant force in Masters squash, Gerald has achieved unprecedented success on the world stage, earning him a well-deserved nomination as a finalist for Sport BC’s Master Athlete of the Year.

A Champion Across the Decades

Gerald’s dedication to the sport spans over five decades, a journey filled with perseverance, camaraderie, and an unrelenting passion for squash. Over the past 20 Canadian championships, he has medaled in multiple categories, including 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, and now 80+. His recent triumph at the World Squash Federation (WSF) World Masters Championship made history; he became the first Canadian to win gold in the Men’s 80+ category, with fellow Canadian Howard Armitage securing silver. This milestone adds to an already impressive career decorated with titles and accolades. 

Currently ranked #1 in Squash BC’s Men’s 80+ singles and Squash Canada’s national adult male rankings, Gerald also holds an impressive #3 ranking in the Universal Squash Rating for adult male players. His consistent excellence across various competitions, including prestigious events like the British Open and World Masters Games, showcases his extraordinary skill and resilience. Some of Gerald’s recent accomplishments include:

  • Pan Am Masters Games – Gold in Men’s 80+ 
  • Canadian National Champion in the 75+ and 80+ Categories
  • WSF World Masters Championship – Gold in Men’s 80+
