The 2024 BC Open presented by Windsor Plywood, held November 14-17 at Jericho Tennis Club, came to a close on Sunday, with Liam Marrison (Evergreen Squash Club) and Giselle Delgado (Cedar Hill Squash Club) crowned as Men’s PSA Challenger 3 & Women’s Open Division Champions, respectively. An event-record-breaking 197 participants competed in the BC Open smashing last year’s record year of 177. This year’s event hosted divisions ranging from Tiered, to Masters, to Junior Silver. The BC Open focused on participant experience both on and off the court, with hard-fought matches throughout, tournament dinner, and event keg during the Men’s PSA semi-finals.

Truly a Team Effort

Squash BC thanks our event partners for supporting the 2024 BC Open presented by Windsor Plywood. We thank Presenting Partner Windsor Plywood for their generous support. We also recognize and thank Platinum Partners Underhill Geomatics and R&B Brewing for returning as sponsors for another year. We welcome and thank two new Gold Partners Odlum Brown and Premium Wealth Management for joining us this year as new sponsors and support the Squash community.

The event would not have been possible without our hosting partners. Jericho Tennis Club made for the perfect primary venue, with club members frequently filling the stands for action-packed matches and also devoting their hours to support the event as volunteers. We also thank Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club and Vancouver Racquets Club for stepping up as our secondary venues, once our event registration surpassed single-venue capacity.

Squash BC extends its heartfelt thanks to Tournament Referee Simon Bicknell for his tireless efforts throughout the BC Open. This event also served as a key milestone in developing officials through our Aussie Pie Guy Referee Development Program, made possible by the generous support of Aussie Pie Guy, the Building the Future Fund, and additional grant funding sources. By using the BC Open as a training and assessment platform, we are advancing the skills and professionalism of referees across the lower mainland. We thank all our referees—Simon, Sergio, Kiowa, Sam, Timo, Navin, Chris, and the many player referees—whose dedication elevated the standard of the event.

Finally, we thank our event team: Richard Yendell for ensuring the amazing facility was set-up and helping coordinate volunteers at Jericho; all the Jericho volunteers who supported throughout the weekend; Chef David and his team who prepared the amazing food at the tournament dinner; Viktor Berg and Shawn Delierre for ensuring Vancouver Lawn’s and VRC’s court were available; Squash BC’s Board volunteers: Cathy, Chris, Joel, Iyeba & Diana; and the Squash BC Staff Team: Kim, Justyna, Jenna, Zoe, and Tournament Director Josh. We could not have put forth such a successful event without your energy and dedication!
