30+ Beach volleyball athletes jumped into squash for the first time—ending with a spirited tournament and a new champion.
Squash BC is excited to spotlight a fantastic example of how our members are helping introduce squash to new sport communities across the province. This year, more than 30 beach volleyball players traded the sand for the courts in a fun and fast‑paced intro‑to‑squash event led by Duncan Maxwell, Rory Johnston, and Jonathan Mark.
What started as a simple orientation quickly turned into a full double‑elimination tournament, with players jumping into matches almost immediately after learning the basics. The energy was high, the rallies were competitive, and the enthusiasm for trying something new was contagious.
A special congratulations goes to Tristan Corneil, who took home a Squash BC prize basket after winning the tournament. Tristan—who also plays with the Rice FC Academy soccer program—showed incredible athleticism and adaptability, picking up squash skills with impressive speed.
We’re thrilled to see athletes from other sports discovering the excitement of squash, and we look forward to welcoming Tristan and many of these volleyball players back on court throughout the year.
With momentum like this, we’re already excited about what’s ahead—and we hope to see even more new players joining the squash community for the 2026–27 season.
