Squash BC has been named the recipient of the 2026 Delivering on Diversity Award by Sport BC, recognizing the impact of its Women in Squash initiatives in advancing equity, participation, and leadership opportunities across the province.
Squash BC is proud to announce that we have been named the recipient of the 2026 Delivering on Diversity Award at the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards.
Presented annually, the Delivering on Diversity Award recognizes sport organizations in British Columbia that are making meaningful strides in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion through their programs and services. Squash BC is honoured to be just the fifth organization in the province to receive this recognition.
Advancing Inclusion Through Women in Squash
This award highlights the impact of Squash BC’s Women in Squash initiative, a province-wide effort launched in 2023 to address long-standing gender gaps in participation, leadership, and athlete development within the sport.
At the time of its launch, women represented a significantly smaller portion of athletes in the competitive pathway. In response, Squash BC focused on creating more inclusive entry points, building supportive environments, and strengthening pathways for women and girls to participate and progress in squash.
Key programs under this initiative include the Women in Squash Leadership Conference, the Coach Mentorship Program, and Women’s Squash Week—all designed to provide opportunities for skill development, mentorship, and community connection.
These efforts have led to meaningful growth across the province. Women’s Squash Week now engages more than 700 participants annually, and Squash BC has achieved 50% female participation in grassroots programming, marking an important milestone in creating a more balanced and inclusive sport environment.
A Community-Driven Achievement
Squash BC Executive Director Kim Dennis emphasized that this recognition reflects the collective effort of the entire squash community:
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognized with the Delivering Diversity Award. It reflects the collective effort of our community to ensure squash in BC is a sport where everyone can see themselves, feel welcome, and have the opportunity to thrive.”
The Province of British Columbia also acknowledged Squash BC’s commitment to reducing barriers in sport and creating more equitable opportunities for participation, noting the importance of ensuring that sport is accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience.
Building Momentum for the Future
This recognition belongs to the many women and girls across British Columbia who have stepped onto the court, taken on leadership roles, and contributed to shaping a more inclusive and supportive squash community.
It also reflects the ongoing support of partners, clubs, coaches, volunteers, and leaders across the province who continue to champion this work and help drive meaningful change.
Squash BC remains committed to building on this momentum—continuing to expand opportunities, strengthen pathways, and create an environment where all participants feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.
