The 2025 BC Junior Open squashed last year’s record of 161 participants, with 179 juniors battling it out at the Evergreen Squash Club on October 3-5. As the opening event of the 2025/26 Squash Canada National Junior Circuit (NJC) Platinum Series, the event attracted the top junior squash players from across the country, including many top American juniors making the trip north for the competition.

Squash BC would like to extend a big thank you to the Evergreen Squash Club for being the host facility of this year’s BC Junior Open. Club Pro Thomas Brinkman, Assistant Pro Liam Marrison and Club Manager Cathy Covernton were huge supporters in ensuring the event’s success at the amazing club. We would also like to thank Hollyburn Country Club for supporting the event by providing additional courts this past weekend for the record-breaking participation in the event. Without the additional court access, this weekend would not have been possible.

This year’s event also showed the growing strength of the Squash BC Referee program, where seven referees helped officiate over 100 matches this weekend, as well as providing support and mentorship to juniors officiating matches across the weekend. The officials were led by Tournament Referee Simon Bicknell, who supported the event tremendously and supported the officials with further development as BC prepares to host the 2025 Canadian Squash Championships.

The BC Junior Open also brought many coaches together who are working on completing their Squash Canada Provincial Coach Certification. Coaches attended a full day and a half of National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) Modules on Thursday and Friday, where the 17 coaches completed the NCCP Manage a Sport Program and NCCP Injury Prevention & Recovery courses, which will better support athletes across the province with improved coaching expertise.
