Women’s Squash Week (WSW) 2023 kicked off the squash season by smashing participation records with events across the province. With 556 participants, WSW 2023 more than doubled last year’s numbers and smashed our previous WSW record of 375 participants in 2019. Remarkably, among these participants, over 290 were new to the sport, cementing WSW’s role as a key new participant recruitment event for facilities across BC. The event also achieved a significant milestone by spreading across 23 different facilities, encompassing all eight of the BC Provincial Zones.
Women’s Squash Week 2023 would not have been a success without our WSW Ambassadors and Facility Partners. A HUGE thank you goes out to the 43 Ambassadors from 23 facilities who organized over 50 events throughout BC. The Ambassadors did an amazing job with participants giving an average score of 9.35 out of 10 regarding their overall experience at their WSW event. Additionally, Squash BC thanks Buntain Insurance for their valuable sponsorship and to the donors of our Building the Future Fund for their continuous support of our Women in Squash program.
One of the key highlights of this year’s WSW was the introduction of the Women in Squash: Ambassador Grant Program. This initiative provided event funding, squash balls, shirts, and marketing materials to Ambassadors across the province, empowering them to create engaging and memorable events. Alongside this, Squash BC unveiled a new WSW Ambassador Package and Event Checklist, giving Ambassadors the tools they need to run successful events.
Looking ahead, we invite all women to mark their calendars for the weekend of February 24-25, 2024. Squash BC is thrilled to announce the second annual Women in Squash: Leadership Conference in the Lower Mainland. This weekend promises to be unforgettable, featuring a captivating speaker series on Saturday and an exclusive women’s social squash tournament on Sunday.
