2023 Canadian Doubles Squash Championships Recap

Squash BC was well represented in Burlington, Ontario at the 2023 Canadian Doubles Championships with BC participants registered in many divisions. This was the first Canadian National Doubles Championships were hosted since COVID, which seen a total of over 100 teams entered in the tournament. The tournament was capped off with Paul Zander (Evergreen Squash Club) claiming the Men’s 55+ national title with partner John Hall (Ontario), and Cathy Brown (Vancouver Lawn) claiming the Women’s 60+ national title with partner Julie Mulitimaki (Alberta).

BC saw many other strong performances, highlighted by recent BC Doubles Women Open Champions Ruth Castellino (Vancouver Lawn) and Tessa Breukels (Vancouver Lawn) claiming silver after falling just short in a nail bitter 5-game match against Robbin Morrison and Tammie Sangster (Ontario) in the Women’s 50+ division.

In the Men’s B division Hussein Salemwalla (VRC) playing with his brother Mohammed (Ontario), brought home the National Silver medal, after losing 3-1 to Ontario’s Joel Goulding and Jonathon Madruga.

Squash BC would like to congratulate all the BC players that travelled to this year’s Canadian Doubles Championships on their strong showing and look forward to see them back in action in BC.
