Girls Team Recap

After back-to-back silver medal showings in the Girls Team events at the 2015 and 2019 Canada Winter Games, Team BC looked to return to the top of the podium like they did in 2011. Team members Ocean Ma, Spring Ma, Maria Min, and Hermione Cao put forth an incredible performance to do just that, not dropping a single game the entire event! The girls advanced following victories over eighth seeded Northwest Territories and ninth seeded Quebec in the preliminary round of the competition.

In the Championship Pool, Team BC faced off against Team Ontario, Team Alberta and Team Manitoba. In their first tie, they faced Alberta where they cruised to victory, dropping only 56 points across their four matchups. In the second tie, they faced Manitoba winning the match in quick succession, with Manitoba only securing 22 points against the strong Team BC squad. With the two wins each in the opening matches, it set up an exciting final tie against Ontario (who also defeated Alberta and Manitoba). In the final, Team BC did not slow down, winning all four matches 3-0 and dropping no more than 8 points in any of the games. With the win Team BC became 2023 Canada Winter Games Champions!

The Championship Round proved to be a very tight race between Team BC, Team Alberta, Tam Quebec and Team Ontario for the Canada Winter Games crown. In the first tie, Team BC faced Team Ontario, where the tie finished 2-2 after the four games. With the matches tied, it came down to games won, where Team BC was victorious with 9 games to 6. In Team BC’s second match the faced Quebec, which also finished in a draw. Once again, with more games won in the tie, Team BC was declared the victors. Going into the last day of the competition, Team BC had everything to play for as all four encounters in the Championship Round had to go down to games won to decide the winner. Team BC took on Team Alberta in a must win matchup to secure Gold. The team did not disappoint, winning all four matches to take home the crown!
