2023 Jesters Pacific North West Squash Championships

The 2023 Jesters Pacific North West Squash Championships was held in Victoria, BC this past weekend (February 10-12, 2023). This event represents one of the largest junior events held in BC each year and is part of the Squash Canada National Junior Circuit, as well as a Squash BC Gold-Level junior event.

Squash BC thanks Tournament Director Ben Uliana, host facilities Cedar Hill Squash Club and the University of Victoria, as well as all event volunteers, officials, sponsors, supporters, participants, parents, and coaches for putting forth such an incredible event. A special thank you goes to the BC Jesters for being such consistent supporters of squash in our province.

In total, 150 young squash athletes competed in the event in boys and girls divisions ranging from U11 to U19. This year, a Mens U23 draw was also held with great success. BC Athletes took home titles in 6 divisions!

Girls U15: 1st: Angela Heyang Hong – BC, 2nd: Georgia Watson – AB, 3rd: Ella Cao – BC

Boys U15: 1st: Beckett Yuzpe – ON, 2nd: Orin Song – BC, 3rd: Norman Yu – BC

Girls U17: 1st: Kira Gwadry – BC, 2nd: Cynthia Yu – BC, 3rd: Athena Yu – BC

Boys U17: 1st: Dylan Scott – BC, 2nd: Calder Murray – AB, 3rd: Jens Bolder – BC

Girls U19: 1st: Amal Izhar – ON, 2nd: Spring Ma – BC, 3rd: Maria Min – BC

Boys U19: 1st: Fazil Khan – ON, 2nd: Roman Bicknell – BC, 3rd: Sam Boulanger – AB

Men’s U23: 1st: Akifuma Murakami HKG, 2nd: Jason Herring – BC, 3rd: Lucas Jessa – BC

Two Sportsmanship Awards were also given out during the event. Roman Bicknell of BC received the George Morfitt Award and Amal Izhar from Ontario received the David Thom Award.
